Portland Cement

Portland cement is the foundation of concrete construction, and St Marys Cement has been producing it longer than most companies in this industry have existed.

The US Portland cement range covers the full spectrum of general construction needs. Type I/II Cement is the versatile workhorse, appropriate for everyday construction where no special properties are required. Type IL (HE) Cement delivers early strength for projects where schedule pressure demands faster results.

Cements for Masonry

A mason only gets one chance to get the mix right on site. Mortar that spreads unevenly or bonds poorly does not make for good results. St Marys masonry cements are manufactured to provide consistent results batch to batch.

Available products include Type N and Type S Portland Lime, Type N, Type M, and Type S Masonry Cement, and Type S and Type N Hi-Bond Mortar Cement, each selected to meet the specific strength and workability requirements of the applications they are built for.

Type IL Cement is a Portland Limestone Cement (PLC) option, engineered to reduce carbon intensity without compromising the performance characteristics that engineers and ready-mix producers have come to depend on from St Marys Cement products.

Blended Cement

Blended cements pair Portland cement with limestone and/or supplementary cementitious materials, giving specifiers a lower carbon option without giving up the performance a project demands.

The US blended cement lineup includes Type IP Blended Silica Fume Cement and Type IS Cement. Each product is verified through testing and quality control against the relevant codes, and each carries the same standard of documentation that supports every other St Marys Cement product. St Marys Cement also sells Type GUb-S in Canada, a blended cement conforming to CSA A3001.

Slag Cement (Supplementary Cementitious Material)

Ground granulated blast furnace slag, a glassy by-product of iron production, is the base material behind St Marys CemPlus. When blended with Portland cement, it produces concrete that outperforms 100 percent Portland cement mixes on several fronts: strength, durability, and a reduced carbon footprint, wherever project specifications allow.

CemPlus can also support Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) points, and it meets the requirements of ASTM C989 Grade 100 in the United States.

Our Distribution Network

St Marys Cement’s distribution network was built specifically to get our products to market, timely and efficiently.

Across the regions we serve, plants and terminals connect through Great Lakes barge shipping, a fleet of 175 leased rail cars, and trucks handling the final leg of delivery. Barge shipping alone accounts for more than half of everything that moves across this network, among the most efficient freight options available in the industry.

A Commitment to Quality

Over more than 110 years, our commitment to quality has held across every product, every plant, and every delivery: reputation is earned over time.

Every facility runs its own Quality Management System, recognized by international standards. Concrete producers and engineers work directly with our technical team, drawing on decades of field experience to address the specific demands of individual projects.

Customer Focus is one of the pillars of our foundation at St Marys Cement

Reducing carbon intensity in cement production is a technical challenge, and we approach it the same way we approach every technical challenge: through product development, rigorous testing, and documented results.

Type IL (Portland-limestone) cement reduces carbon intensity compared to ordinary Portland cement by using a higher proportion of limestone in place of clinker, the most carbon-intensive stage of production.

St Marys CemPlus slag cement builds on that further. It diverts a by-product of iron production away from disposal and reduces the amount of clinker used in the cement portion of concrete mixes. Each of these products carries the same rigorous testing and Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) documentation as every other product in this catalogue. Act with Ownership, one of the nine principles of Our VC Way, means the customer and the environment are never treated as separate obligations.
